🕊️ Dedicated to Gino Brown “One Genius”
This song is dedicated to the memory of Gino Brown, known to us as “One Genius.” Gino was more than a friend — he was family, inspiration, and a key part of the early foundation of my music journey.
I met Gino when I was 19–20 while we were incarcerated. We used to write songs together on the yard, dream about music, and talk about life beyond prison. He played guitar and had a real creative spirit that stayed with him everywhere he went.
Gino told me he knew Smoke E Digglera from the R&B group Playa and promised he would connect me when we got home. I didn’t know if it was real at the time—but he made it happen.
When I got out and started recording my first project, I ran into Gino again. True to his word, he took me to the studio and introduced me to Smoke E Digglera. That moment changed my entire life and opened doors I never imagined.
From there, I went on to connect and work around artists like Digital Black, Static Major, and engineer Dino Johnson, becoming part of a powerful R&B creative circle that shaped this era of music.
This song was written and developed during that early Kentucky/Lexington period at Karma Records, which was owned by Candace Jones (owner) and co-owned by Kelli Simpson, where we were building records and turning real life into music.
Gino had deep love and respect for Smoke E Digglera and the entire circle around him, including Ron Grem of Music Generator, who also contributed to writing and creative development during that time. Gino supported everybody he believed in — and that love was always returned by everyone who knew him.
Later in life, we lost Gino to alcoholism. That loss still carries weight. But his impact never left.
He wasn’t just part of the journey — he helped start it.
So this record is not just a song…
It’s memory.
It’s gratitude.
It’s family.
